Mission
Statement
The Douglas Historical
Preservation Committee was formed in May of 1991 with the following
purpose:
The purpose of this
Committee is to discover, procure and preserve whatever may relate
to the civil, religious, social, cultural and natural history
of the Village of Douglas. To accomplish the aforesaid purpose
of the Committee, its acctivities shall include, but not be limited
to the following: to collect oral histories, a library of books,
pamphlets, maps, manuscripts, prints, papers, paintings, photographs,
historical, geneological, archaeological and biographical materials
relating to the Douglas area, and in the future, to maintain a
museum for the purpose of exhibiting, illustrating and preserving
such material antiquities descriptive of past and present resources
of the Douglas area; to encourage and promote the study and enjoyment
of history by lectures and other means; and to publish and distribute
information relative to the Douglas area, as well as the physical
preservation and when possible, the renovation of historic structures.
Current
Projects
The focus of several
years has been to raise funds and encourage the Village of Douglas
to renovate the landmark building in the center of town, known
as the Dutcher Lodge, for a community center.
